My approach to psychotherapy and assessment is rooted in compassion and strength.

Many people fear judgment when they are considering whether to seek services. I recognize the courage it takes to make that choice and I support that choice by being a non-judgmental, compassionate provider.

Second, my approach is to focus not only on an individual, but the broader environment in which the individual lives and operates. For example, a flower’s ability to grow is not just dependent on the flower’s personal qualities and abilities, but also the soil in which it was planted, the climate, and how often it is being watered.

Finally, and importantly, my approach is to utilize evidence-based practices meaning that the interventions and assessment measures I use are based on research evidence that they are effective in promoting improvement among many people. My therapeutic orientation is known as “third-wave” cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), meaning I focus on how someone’s emotions, thoughts, and behaviors impact each other, and I typically focus on helping individuals to make changes in one or more of these areas. I weave in mindfulness, acceptance and self-love (hence “third-wave”) into the CBT that I do.

Through my 10+ years as a clinician, I have learned that a person’s greatest difficulties can also be their greatest source of strength. My role is to help you – and/or your family and children – take the pain or difficulties you have experienced in life and help you transform it into power to create a life that you will love.
