Psychological Assessment
Comprehensive psychological evaluations for diagnostic clarity, treatment planning, and understanding how you or your child thinks, learns, and functions.
Not every question can be answered in a therapy session.
Sometimes the most useful thing a psychologist can do is step back and assess carefully before treating. Psychological assessment provides a structured, evidence-based picture of cognitive abilities, emotional functioning, learning profiles, and diagnostic questions that inform better decisions.
How is this different from therapy?
A psychological assessment is a separate, structured evaluation — not an extension of therapy. It involves standardised psychometric instruments (such as the WISC, WAIS, CELF, BRIEF, and others selected for your specific referral question) administered across dedicated testing sessions. Because of the specialised materials, scoring, clinical interpretation, and comprehensive written report involved, assessment is priced separately from therapy. See Fees for details.
Areas of evaluation.
Cognitive and intellectual functioning
Standardized measures of reasoning, processing speed, working memory, and overall intellectual ability (e.g., WISC-V, WAIS-IV, WPPSI-IV).
Learning and academic achievement
Evaluation of reading, writing, and math skills to identify learning disabilities or achievement patterns (e.g., WIAT-III, WJ-IV).
Attention and executive function
Comprehensive ADHD evaluations for children and adults using multi-method, multi-informant approaches.
Emotional and behavioral functioning
Structured assessment of anxiety, mood, behavioral regulation, and social-emotional development using clinical interviews, rating scales, and validated instruments.
Diagnostic clarification
When the clinical picture is complex — overlapping symptoms, previous inconclusive assessments, or multiple possible diagnoses — a comprehensive evaluation provides the clarity needed to move forward.

What to Expect: The Assessment Process
A comprehensive psychological assessment is not a single test — it is a structured clinical process designed to answer your specific questions with precision and care.
1. Initial Consultation (1 hour)
I begin with a detailed clinical interview to understand the referral question, developmental history, current concerns, and goals. For children and adolescents, this typically involves a separate parent interview. This session shapes the entire assessment plan.
2. Testing Sessions (2–4 hours, across 1–2 sessions)
Standardised psychological tests are administered in a calm, private setting. The specific battery is selected based on the referral question and may include measures of cognitive ability, academic achievement, attention, executive function, emotional functioning, and personality. Sessions are paced to ensure comfort and optimal performance, particularly for younger clients.
3. Scoring, Interpretation & Report Writing (1–2 weeks)
All data is carefully scored, cross-referenced, and interpreted in the context of the clinical interview and behavioural observations. A comprehensive written report is prepared with clear findings, diagnostic impressions, and specific, actionable recommendations.
4. Feedback Session (1 hour)
We walk through the results together, answer your questions, and discuss practical next steps. For child assessments, recommendations for home and school are provided, along with guidance on how to communicate findings to teachers and other professionals if needed.
Total time commitment: Approximately 4–7 hours of direct clinical contact over 2–4 appointments, plus 1–2 weeks for report preparation. Most assessments are completed within 3–4 weeks from the initial consultation.
